Hospital indemnity insurance: Helps pay for out-of-pocket expenses that major medical insurance doesn’t cover. Hospital indemnity coverage isn’t a substitute for major medical insurance. It is intended as supplement to major medical coverage.

Major medical insurance: Typical major medical coverage today helps pay for doctor visits, hospital stays, preventive care, and many medical services after meeting an annual deductible and cost-sharing requirements.
